Laal Walk

More commitments this weekend meant we did not get out for a walk until 1500 hrs on Sunday afternoon. Luckily Rannerdale Knott is only half an hour away and makes a grand short stroll with good views.
There was one place in the car park. It had obviously been a busy day as there were cars parked everywhere and people having barbecues by the lake.

We continued along the ridge before slanting off left to the valley just before the hause.
Rannerdale is a beautiful little valley and in spring is carpeted with bluebells.
A reminder that autumn is just around the corner as the rowan berries are ripening and the bracken is going brown in places.
Oh well it was a lovely afternoon , the company was good and I got to practice with the new camera.

Good post. I remember doing this fell twice with novice walkers on both occasions in glorious sunshine. Incredible views.

Greg: thanks for your comment on my post. As is so often the case, it led me to your blog which I'm looking forward to sauntering through. Expects some more discourse! Nice photos. On the iPhone at the moment so not easy to read everything (signal undulates like Hadrians Wall) but will enjoy reading it later. The more I think about the Caldera Cone, the more I think a versatile kit collection is no bad thing. One thing on the MSR Titan kettle - if you keep the handles apart they don't heat up I'm advised - the DX never really got to a rolling boil as I said but it still heated three lots of water & the handles never got hot so looking forward to seeing if that works when I get a rolling boil going. Any thoughts?

Maz, the thing with the caldera is the whole pan is surrounded by the heat. So its not radiating heat out whilst you just heat the bottom. I got the titanium version . I've had it a while , I think it was a prototype so got it cheaper. There's a special caddy to carry it in now but I just put it inside a cut down plastic pop bottle. I quite like my little vargo gas stove but was always faffing with wind breaks.

Plastic pop bottle? I guess that is stable enough to protect the windshield and a large stuff sack would keep everything together. The thing that annoys me about the Caldera cone caddy is the weight - 76g for the small caddy - guess your pop bottle weighs about 10g! That said, I could just use half of the caddy which would be about 40g as it's not like I'd use the top half.

Yes I just roll it up and push it in, it then springs out and stays in there. I don't bother with a bag , just shove it down inside the rucksack.
