We ascended the path on the left side of Taylorgill Force and then headed for a shallow gully on the end of the fell.
This was quite slippery , but did add a touch of excitement to the accent.
We sheltered and had a sandwich. The day was gray but luckily most of the clouds were just above our lowly peak.
By the time we reach Styhead the weather is much better and the snow line has retreated up the fell.
After an uneventful descent we head for the Royal Oak in Rosthwaite where they do a brilliant afternoon tea. Proper loose tea and scones with rum butter and home made jam. Unfortunately by the time I took the photo we had eaten them all.

Hi Greg. That's a fantastic picture of Styhead Tarn. Looks like a cold day, mind.
Glad to hear the scones hadn't run out this time. That sort of thing makes all the difference. I've never been in the Royal Oak, so I might have to try it when I'm in that neck of the woods next.

Looks like you had a splendid day all round. Some pics make it look very wintery. I usually go in the back bar at the Scafell Hotel. It is a long time since i was in the Royal Oak. Must be 30 years. That furniture was probably new then. ha.
Yes it's certainly a place with character. I think the Scafell is next door and I think is the one where Wainwright chatted to Eric Robson.

And there's nothing wrong with tea and scones. Or beige, for that matter - it's a great colour for a cardigan .......

I just don't think you can beat walking in the snow, I love it. Kinder on Sunday was blizzard blasted but still great fun!
Jules, I always think of beige as the colour worn by Marks and Spencer man.
